Features
- You don't have to stay on dry land to get great sound — Kenwood's KTS-MP400MR marine CD receiver delivers outstanding audio performance right in your boat. It's tough enough to withstand the stress of a harsh marine environment, and it offers up great sound quality and plenty of entertainment options.
- Kenwood protects the internal circuitry with a special coating that prevents the corrosion that can destroy an ordinary in-dash stereo. Meanwhile, the waterproof front panel and fold-down CD door prevent unnecessary soakings. The face also sports a large, backlit display that you'll have no problem reading, even in bright sunlight.

- When you store your boat in drydock in the offseason, don't worry about having to readjust your audio settings or resaving your radio presets. The KTS-MP400MR features Kenwood's convenient full memory backup, which will save all your settings even when there's no power going to the stereo. It gives you one less thing you have to do when boating season rolls around.
- Bring along your discs loaded with MP3s and WMA files — this receiver will play them. Hook up satellite radio, and you can listen to the endless variety of SIRIUS or XM. Your iPod® can come sailing with you, too, when you connect it with Kenwood's optional iPod control interface — you can even sort through your playlists with the KTS-MP400MR's controls.
- The built-in amplifier makes sure your music reaches your ears, instead of getting drowned out. You can add external amplifiers or a powered subwoofer, so your music will have added impact. And you'll enjoy precise control over the tone of your music.

- Features
- Marine Ready: To make the KTS-MP400MR suitable for a marine environment, the circuit board is coated with a special water-resistant epoxy and a connector for an optional wired remote is soldered onto the circuit board. The unit also features a waterproof front panel and fold-down CD door. For increased protection, this unit comes with a waterproof shield, which can be placed over the top of the chassis before installation.
- MP3/WMA Playback: The receiver can play MP3 and WMA files recorded on CD-ROM, CD-R, and CD-RW discs in ISO9660 Level 1/Level 2, Joliet, and Romeo formats. Each disc should have a maximum of 8 directory levels, 50 folders, and 255 files per folder. During MP3/WMA playback, the unit displays any recorded ID3 Tag information.
- System Q-EX Sound Control: Six EQ curves are preset into memory, allowing you to recall the best preset EQ curve for different types of music: Rock, Pops, Easy, Top 40, Jazz, and Flat. In addition, you may store your own settings under the "User Memory" EQ curve. Each preset has its own bass center frequency, bass level, bass Q factor, bass extension, middle center frequency, middle level, middle Q factor, treble center frequency, and treble level settings. You may adjust the bass center frequency (60, 70, 80, 100, or 150Hz), bass level (-8 to +8), bass Q factor (1.00, 1.25, 1.50 or 2.00), bass extension (On or Off), middle center frequency (0.5, 1.0, 1.5 or 2.0kHz), middle level (-8 to +8), middle Q factor (1.0 or 2.0), treble center frequency (10.0, 12.5, 15.0 or 17.5kHz), and treble level (-8 to +8). The System Q EX can be turned off in the menu, still allowing you to adjust the bass, middle and treble levels only.
- Subwoofer Preamp Output: The KTS-MP400MR is equipped with a pair of subwoofer preamp outputs. The subwoofer outputs can easily be turned on/off. When the subwoofer output is turned on, you can adjust the volume (-15 to +15 in increments of 2) and set the low pass filter cutoff (50Hz, 80Hz, 120Hz, or Through).
- System E's: In addition to System Q-EX Sound Control, the KTS-MP400MR features the System E's crossover system for the speaker and preamp outputs. You can make the following adjustments:
- Front High Pass Filter: 100Hz, 125Hz, 170Hz, or Thru (no filter)
- Rear High Pass Filter: 200Hz, or Thru (no filter)
- Low Pass Filter: 50Hz, 80Hz, 120Hz or Thru (no filter)
- Volume Offset: The level of each source may be independently adjusted to prevent radical leaps in output volume when switching from one source to another. The available settings range from -8 to 0.
- Disc/Station Naming: You can enter and store names of up to 12 characters for CDs and radio stations. Characters can include upper and lower case letters, numbers, symbols, and special accent characters. The memory can store names for up to 48 stations (32 FM/16 AM) and 30 discs in the internal CD player. The number of disc names you can store for an external CD changer depends upon the capability of the changer.
- Dual Zone System: The KTS-MP400MR's Dual Zone System allows you to output one source to the front channels and another source to the rear channels. The main source can be the internal disc player or tuner, while the sub source can be a satellite radio tuner, CD changer, or component connected to the optional auxiliary input adapter. You can assign the sub source to either the front or rear channels.
- Built-in Amp Switch: If the audio signals are output to external amplifiers, you can turn off the internal amplifier to improve audio quality.
- CR-2 Advanced Tuner: This unit uses Kenwood's CR-2 Advanced tuner for clear radio reception. You can choose one of three tuning modes: Auto 1 (seek tuning), Auto 2 (cycles through and tunes the selected band's preset stations only with each button press), or Manual.
- Clean Reception System Circuit (CRSC): This circuit controls multi-path distortion by reducing stereo separation. As stereo separation is reduced, multi-path has less effect on the radio signal, improving reception in areas with tall buildings and mountains. The CRSC circuit can be turned on or off.
- Last Position Memory: If the unit is shut off or switched to the tuner mode while a CD is playing, the next time CD is selected as the source, playback will resume from the point where it left off.
- Display Dimmer: When the dimmer control is set to "on", the display automatically dims when the vehicle lights are turned on. When set to "off", the display doesn't dim.
- Note: In order for the display dimmer feature to operate, the orange/white wire in the supplied wiring harness must be connected to the vehicle's headlight circuit.
- Bass Management System (B.M.S.): The receiver can remotely adjust the bass boost level of a compatible Kenwood external amplifier with Bass Management System. When properly connected (the pink/black wire on the receiver harness needs to be connected to the amplifier), the head unit can set the bass boost to Flat, +6dB, +12dB, and +18dB (when the amp is capable). Also, you can set the bass boost center frequency to Normal (set by the amp), or Low (lowered by 20%).
- Wired Remote Compatibility: This receiver includes a dedicated wired remote input for use with the optional KCA-RC100MR wired remote control (item 045RC100MR).
- External Device Controls
- Satellite Radio Ready: There are several options for connecting an optional XM or SIRIUS Satellite Radio receiver to this receiver:
- XM Satellite Radio: To receive XM Satellite Radio, you can connect the optional CNP2000UC XM Mini Tuner (220CNP20UC) and the Kenwood CNP-KEN1 adapter cable (package item number 700XMKEN1).
- SIRIUS Satellite Radio: To receive SIRIUS Satellite Radio, you can connect the optional SIRIUS Universal Vehicle Tuner (607SCC1) and the optional Kenwood Sirius Satellite Radio Interface (113KCASR50).
- Auxiliary Input: A portable satellite radio receiver, such as the Delphi SkyFi3 or SIRIUS Sportster, can be connected to the head unit via the auxiliary input or a Kenwood Auxiliary Input Adapter, such as the CA-C1AX, CA-C2AX, or KCA-S220A.
- Note: A subscription is also required to receive satellite radio programming from SIRIUS or XM.
- Changer Controls: This unit is directly compatible with Kenwood changers manufactured in 1998 or later. If the changer has an O-N switch, the switch will need to be set to the "N" position. When used with a compatible CD changer, this feature allows you to assign names to discs in the changer. Each name can be up to 12 characters in length. The number of names you can store depends on the CD changer that is connected to the head unit. When connected to a CD Text capable CD changer, this unit can display disc and track titles for discs encoded with disc and track title information.
- Auxiliary Input "Ready": When used with an optional adapter, this unit can accept input from an auxiliary source. When the CA-C1AUX adapter (item 113CAC1AX) is used, you cannot connect a CD changer to the head unit because the adapter plugs into the DIN changer control connection on the head unit. When the KCA-S220A 2-changer switch (item 113KCAS220) is used, you can connect a CD changer and an auxiliary audio source at the same time. When an auxiliary audio source is connected, you can choose from one of six names for the source: Aux Ext, TV, DVD, Video, Game, or Portable.
- Optional iPod Adapter: This receiver is compatible with the optional Kenwood KCA-iP500 iPod control interface (item # 113IP500).
